The label associated with each entity has either been taken from the National Library of France's authority file or created according to choices made by other libraries or dictionaries. These labels are alternative forms of the name in the same way as any other form that may have been proposed over time to refer to a particular person. Therefore, they do not represent canonical or standard forms. Bibliographic notes give additional clues on the identity of some persons, particularly those who are not or hardly listed in other resources.

The names of persons included in this authority file come from two sources:

The different variants of names coming from the original resources have been harmonized, clustered and aligned to Linked Open Data repositories (especially those of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, Library of Congress, Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, Wikidata, SUDOC, Biblioteca Nacional de España, the CERL Thesaurus, etc.).

The primary goal of this work was to allow the merging of disparate data within the Biblissima portal and the IIIF Collections platform, and not to build a biographical database.
