As for the persons, the geographical names in this authority file come from the catalogues and databases of the Biblissima partners and the datasets merged into the IIIF Collections of Manuscripts and Rare Books platform.

In its April 2019 version, this authority file only contains the geographical data of the Biblissima portal (around 5500 names) which are of several types:

  • locations of holding institutions recorded in the federated databases
  • locations of organisations identified in the federated databases as contributors to a document (former owner, archive producer)
  • places of production of manuscripts or publication of printed books
  • places as iconographic descriptors, as defined by the Mandragore database at the BnF

The French label of the names has either been taken from the geographical authority file of the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) and from Rameau, or has been created according to choices made by other libraries or dictionaries.
The English label was either retrieved from GeoNames or Wikidata, or created based on other datasets such as Pleiades. The geographical coordinates were taken from GeoNames or the BnF authority file.
